Activities
& Attractions
There are many rocky beaches in our area, and all
have easy access. Beaches
in the sourth of Yachats
are rocky with many tide pools, as the coastal mountain
headlands jut out into the ocean. A mile north of
Yachats, the terrain changes to long stretches of
sandy beaches that
continue north for six to seven miles. A nice walking
trail leads along the coastline from The
Adobe to the sandy beach (about a Mile).
Golf Courses are available
in Waldport (eight
miles north), in Newport
(24 miles north) and in Florence
(25 miles south). There are several gift shops,
art galleries, service stations, a bakery, a post
office, a bank and a large grocery store in Yachats.
Area attractions include Sea
Lion Caves, Cape Perpetua Visitors Center,
whale watching, beachcombing, fishing, crabbing,
hiking trails and sightseeing. Charter
boat trips and airplane
rides are available in Newport.
Horseback riding and
sand dune rides are
nearby in Florence.
The Vicinity
Yachats is nestled between the lush forested mountains
of the Coast Range and the lapping waves of the
Pacific Ocean. It is the ideal spot for rest,
relaxation and romance.
Yachats' uncrowded beaches are especially promising
for rockhounds, beachcombers, fishermen, clamdiggers,
picnicking families or strolling couples. Its
rock promontories offer some of the most
dramatic surf action in the world, especially
during the winter storms in December, January,
and February.
Yachats offers vacationers a unique alternative
to the hustle of city life and welcome respite
from the impersonal quality of large resorts.
Yachats is derived from the Chinook Indian word
"Yahuts" meaning "Dark
waters at the foot of the mountain". |
