The holiday season has always held a special place in my heart, and while spending it with friends and family is ultimately ideal, the Adobe Resort makes working through Christmas time just as special. From the beautiful decorations found anywhere from the lobby to the dining room, to the plethora of seasonal specialties our kitchen has to offer, it really does seem like the most wonderful time of the year.
But speaking of decorations, lights are a huge part of any holiday display. And being the “coastie” that I am, I know the most festive of all are the lights of the crabbing boats floating on the ocean’s horizon. With the sun setting as early as it does, our dining room’s picturesque windows allow the perfect opportunity to bask in the beauty of the boats’ glow. In fact, I’ve become so accustomed to seeing the lights every December, that until they show themselves, it doesn’t quite feel like Christmas yet. The finishing touch of the magnificent gleam is, for me, definitely the star on top of the tree, so to say. With so many festive frills thrown into the already warm and inviting mix, there’s a lot to be excited about during December. So I decided to conduct a brief survey of a few of our Adobe employees to see what their favorite part of working here during the holiday season is.
Kasea, a front desk agent who is spending her first holiday season with us here at the Resort, notes that her favorite part about working during December is “all of the lights and decorations in the hallway”. Between the wreaths hanging on the adobe brick in the entryway and more than six Christmas trees that can be found throughout the property, there’s a lot of holiday cheer to be seen. And Kasea’s not the only one who admires the décor. Servers Jacob and Taylor in the dining room, spending nine and four Christmases at the Adobe, respectively, both agree that the dining room decorations are among their favorite. “It always looks so nice and festive in here,” states Taylor, admiring the jolly displays that are themed to each room. The main dining room offers a traditional look, with giant red and green stockings on the walls and colored ornaments hanging off the houseplants that adorn the walls year-round, while the lounge, conversely, boasts a crisp and contemporary blue and white color scheme, celebrating the more winter-y aspect of the season. “I love the tree in the lobby, I think all the sea shell ornaments are a great way to represent the coast,” says Anthony, the resort’s General Manager who is spending his first Christmas with the Adobe this year.
“I always manage to find something out of the gift shop,” says Kathleen, our sales and marketing manager who is spending her twentieth Christmas here at the Adobe. “It’s a great place to find last minute gifts.” With an ever rotating stock in our unique gift shop, comprised of old favorites and new treasures, it’s no surprise that it’s a must stop on the list of holiday shopping destinations.
A favorite of Wade, a bartender who has worked in our lounge for eight holiday seasons, is the spectacular winter weather that presents a show for guests and staff alike. All season long, even well into March, the Adobe lounge or dining room is a great place to come and watch the thrashing ocean storms and enjoy a delicious meal. “It’s great to watch such powerful storms. There’s a lot of customers who come here every year to watch the storms, it’s the coastal substitute for snow.”
Over the years, I’ve personally come to admire how much like a family the entire Adobe staff is. Between the nostalgia-inspiring decorations and smiling faces you see in the few weeks leading up to Christmas, it’s easy to feel like work and home overlap during the holidays. Plus, with the self-sufficient entertainment provided by the crashing waves and cheerful spirit filling the air, the Adobe resort is, most certainly, one of my favorite places to be during the season. It’s warm and welcoming, to both those who work and play here, and always has something unique to offer no matter when you visit.
From the Adobe family to yours, we would like to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy holiday season this year. I’m certain we’ll do our best to make you feel at home here in Yachats should your holiday plans bring you to our property this December.
With love and care,
The Adobe Staff
